Dr. Berger's New Blog

Dr. Berger has started a new Blog here on blogspot at:
http://tubal-ligation-reversal-by-dr-berger.blogspot.com/

Tubal ligation reversal by Dr. Berger restores the ability to become pregnant after tubal ligation. In this blog, Dr. Berger presents the most important issues about tubal reversal surgery that everyone should know if they are considering having another baby after having a tubal ligation.

Wanting to reverse your tubal ligation?

You are not alone in wanting to reverse your tubal ligation. Let's take a quick look at the facts presented by the CDC from their 1995 CREST study.

In this study, we learn that tubal ligation was done 1 1/2 to 2 times more often than a vasectomy as time went on from 1973 to 1982 and continued at that rate to the time frame of this study in 1995. I found this a surprising fact considering that in 1965, tubal ligation and vasectomy were equally as common.

Taking both forms of sterilization into account, the CDC considers 41% of women in the age group of 15-44 as being surgically sterile. Of these, 26% chose to have a tubal ligation because either the woman or the man in the relationship wanted no more children.

The number of women in this age group that had their tubes tied calculates out to 3,978,000 women. This figure remains pretty constant year in and year out.

Now, we get to the part of you finding out if you are alone in wanting a tubal ligation reversal or one among very few who want this. According to the CDC, almost 25% of women with tied tubes want a tubal ligation reversal. Turning to the calculator again, that comes out to 994,500 women. Almost a million women in any one year are wanting to reverse their tubal ligation. That's just in the U.S. alone. Many more women feel this way around the world.

So you can see you are far from being alone in your desire. Good thing you can get your tubes untied through another surgery called, as mentioned above, tubal ligation reversal. Once you know this, you move on to the next step toward having another pregnancy by researching your options.

There are things you do need to learn in order to help you make the best decision for you which will result in your end goal of a child. With the Internet at your fingertips you have many resources for your research.

The best place to begin and end your search, however, is the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center's website at http://www.tubal-reversal.net/ Here you will find a message board where you can meet other women wanting the same thing as you as well as tons of information about tubal ligation reversal. Check it out today.

Hi I had my TR on May 15, 2009. We arrived May 13, 209 at 5:00pm. The first night we caught up on much needed sleep after the long plane ride. Janice picked us up she was an angel sent from heaven and we hit it off right from the start. The next morning we ate breakfast at the restaurant at the hotel because it came with the room. It was amazing and tasted great. Then we went to our consult, from what we here we were in and out the fastest they had ever seen. After the consult we hung out on Franklin street and went to the NC basketball museum. My husband was in love. We at a Hams who had the best chicken wings ever. Then we got back to the hotel after renting some movies from red box and relaxed. I did not have to be at the center until 8:30 am so in the morning my DH ate breakfast and then we were off. I was the fourth patient that day but we got out by one o'clock. The doctor said everything was great my tubes are in excellent condition with 6.0 cm on each side. YESSSSSSS!!!! So we went home took a little nap went for a walk and I rested and walked around the hotel for the rest of the day. I stayed with liquids and apple sauce until the next morning I had toast and eggs but pretty much have been drinking two glasses a water an hour to keep me regular and hydrated from the meds. Today I am going to try to eat a little more. I am sore but the pain is not that bad if you rest. I will be flying home today we stop in Philly to see our family so we did not have to be on a long flight. Well all the ladies that had Tr that day good luck to you especially Renee there was another lady named Renee there her husband was so sweet and keep a conversation going with my DH, anyways hope all went well and baby dust to all. Now just waiting for AF to show its face its supposed to be here by the 19th but we will see if anything changes I will keep everyone posted. Thanks to all the CHTRC staff who were so amazing.

After my last miscarriage in May, I began an 81mg aspirin regimen and increased my folic acid. My quants on Wednesday were 285 so, I’ll have an ultrasound on Monday to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. Remarks: I’m scheduled for a check up with the Ob on Wed (11/19/08). They plan to do a vaginal ultrasound and exam and if everything looks ok I will have a regular ultrasound on Thursday (11/20/08). I feel pretty good. No real nausea, but I do feel fatigued. We are not sure when my last period was because I had a period on 9/30 (which was normal) and then I had a lite period about 14 days later that lasted about 3-4 days. It was more than spotting but less than a normal period, so I’m not sure if that was implantation bleeding or another period. The doctor is going on the 9/30 date for now which would make me about 7 weeks.

Tubal Reversal Patient Satisfaction Messages

Tubal Reversal Doctor December 2nd, 2008
I took a lot of time looking for a doctor who could perform a tubal reversal. There are many out there, and having surgery isn’t something I take lightly. It was very important for me to find the right tubal reversal doctor and the right staff to provide me with EXCELLENT care.

I found Dr. Berger and his staff at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center to go above and beyond my expectations. I was able to get all my questions answered before and even after surgery. Dr. Berger and his staff provided me with great care, and were very helpful during the entire process. My reversal surgery went very well, and I healed very quickly. At my discharge they gave me instructions that I followed closely. I was very impressed by the follow up care that Dr. Berger and his staff provided. I am more than satisfied. They are a great team, and it because of the team work that makes Dr. Berger and his staff unique.

I would encourage anyone considering a tubal reversal to contact Dr. Berger.

Tubes Tied Not Permanent November 26th, 2008

Dr. Berger,

I could sing your praises forever and, in fact, I have referred many people to you including perfect strangers who have stopped to remark on how precious our little D’Angelo is. I know all tubal reversal stories are different, and ours is also a most unique story. My husband and I have been together for sixteen years and had our first three kids in our mid-twenties. We always wanted more but after having to take custody of my husband’s siblings, we made the huge mistake of getting my tubes tied, a choice we thought was permanent.  I mourned the loss of the children we never had. As the kids all grew older and as we approached our mid-thirties, we began to talk about the “what-ifs” and after a short time on the internet researching PTLS, found your website.

This has been the most miraculous experience and we know that God led us directly to your care. Our first three kids are now thirteen, eleven, and nine. To be able to share this with our children is an experience beyond words. They were all in the delivery room with us, my daughters holding my legs and actively coaching, and my son being able to cut his new brother’s umbilical cord. A choir of tearful joy enveloped D’Angelo as he entered this world.

Our family is better and stronger for this, and we are all anxious to meet and be blessed with another baby come July.

Tubal Reversal Satisfaction November 26th, 2008

Honestly, anyone who would rate their satisfaction less than a 10 is insane. Everyone at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center was wonderful. I can’t get care at my own doctor’s office as good as I got from the staff at your facility. I just want to thank everyone there for the care my husband and I received. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to have our tubal reversal procedure done.

Thank you again, Dr. Berger, and staff. We can’t wait to inform you when we get pregnant.

I want to thank you, Dr. Berger, and your entire staff.  My tubal reversal surgery couldn’t have gone any more smoothly. I had no nausea afterward and I can’t even ride in a car without getting sick to my stomach! You guys should be very proud of the work that you do. You are extremely professional and efficient and as a health care professional I know what I am talking about.
Great Job! I would recommend you to anyone.
Thanks again,

A New Beginning November 24th, 2008
I had my surgery done 20 Nov, and am now sitting here at home, a little sore, but healing very nicely. I have been reflecting on my experience for the past couple of days and how it has changed us as a family already.

Doctor Monteith, I’m sure you know how you make a difference in people’s lives, given the nature of your work, and you must hear words of gratitude quite often. You gave us hope. The magic and joy of even having the possibility to conceive fills every corner of our house. We all feel it, even our daughters. Sir, you were so nice to us, and down to earth. We thank you.

Doctor Hertz, the anesthesia and getting put to sleep was the scariest part for me. You were so unbelievably kind and very patient from the beginning. We trusted you, and on the morning of the surgery, I felt no fear. We thank you as well.

To all the nurses, Martha, Donna, Fran, Lorie, and Susie thank you all so much for your kindness, and your smiles. When I posted on the message board about my experience, I told everyone that I was treated with a tenderness that is almost nonexistent in most health care institutions today. You all are very special.

Ultimately this was one of the best experiences of my life, not just because it marks a new beginning, but because it is just that type of establishment: first rate, professional, knowledgeable, affordable, organized, and caring. Even the hotel stay was perfect! And finally, Dr. Berger, I did not meet you, but this clinic is yours, and we thank God for you and that you decided to open it. You must be proud of this amazing staff.

Have a happy thanksgiving all of you.

Second Child Since Tubal Reversal November 24th, 2008
This will be our second child since our tubal reversal, and our fifth total. We feel truly blessed to have welcomed our son, D’Angelo, in September 2007. We are very excited that he will soon be a big brother!

Without your steady hands, Dr. Berger, and God’s blessing, we wouldn’t even have this news to share. Thanks for everything. We are putting together a scrapbook to send to your office, but it obviously won’t be complete until next year.

I also wanted you to know that as early as my first menstrual cycle post-surgery, my PTLS had disappeared completely.

I am very happy that I chose Chapel Hill to perform my tubal reversal surgery and would not change anything about it. My whole experience from start to finish was just great. The staff, nurses, doctors, anesthesiologist EVERYONE was just wonderful. Everyone made sure to explain everything that was happening or going to happen. They made sure I was comfortable at all times and were very reassuring when I started to get anxious.

Thank you so much for giving us another chance to add to our family! I will refer everyone that is thinking about having a tubal reversal done to your facility. The whole experience was great.

Dear Dr. Berger,

There isn’t a thing I can say that hasn’t been said to you, but I do want you to know how much I appreciate you and your staff for what you’ve done for me. That was an experience I’ll never forget, and what a shame other medical facilities aren’t run the way yours is. You’ve given me a shot at something I never dreamed was a possibility, according to others I’ve spoken to, so no matter what happens, you are valued very much by all of us.

Thank you so much, and about that ratemds.com site…. can I still go there and leave you rave reviews, or is that something that was only temporary?  I’d love to post something special about you and your wonderful staff.
Thank you so much!

Fallopian Tubes

Fallopian Tube Repair

The tubal reversal doctors at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center are specialists in fallopian tube repair. Although most of patients come to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center for tubal ligation reversal, others come for fallopian tube repair after a tubal infection or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ectopic pregnancy, or previous surgery involving the fallopian tubes.

Fallopian Tube Anatomy

The fallopian tube begins within the muscular wall of the uterus (interstitial segment), leads away from the uterine wall (isthmic segment), becomes wider (ampulla), extends to the widest area near the end of the tube (infundibulum), and ends next to the ovary (fimbrial segment).

The fallopian tube has several important functions that include:

  • Capturing the egg at ovulation
  • Providing the proper environment for fertilization
  • Transporting the fertilized egg to the uterine cavity

When fallopian tubes have become damaged, pregnancy difficult and sometimes impossible to achieve.

Fallopian Tube Disease

When a fallopian tube is damaged and completely closed, sperm cannot reach an egg to fertilize it, and the egg cannot reach the uterine cavity. Common causes of fallopian tube damage are:

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Other abdominal infections
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Prior pelvic surgery

Diagnosing Fallopian Tube Disorders

The possibility of fallopian tube damage should be suspected when a woman is either unable to become pregnant or has a history of multiple ectopic pregnancies. The diagnosis of a damaged fallopian tube usually is made from an x-ray procedure called a hysterosalpingogram (HSG). During an HSG, a radio-opaque dye is placed into the cavity of the uterus and pictures are taken as the dye flows into the fallopian tube. If the dye does not travel freely from the uterine cavity and through the fallopian tube into the abdominal cavity, then fallopian tube damage is suspected.

Fallopian Tube Repair

Fallopian tube damage due to infection of the tube may result in a swollen, club-shaped tube called a hydrosalpinx. In this situation, the fimbrial end of the tube is closed by scar tissue. This is easily diagnosed by a HSG when the dye is seen to fill the fallopian tube but becomes trapped within it at its swollen fimbrial end. This is the most common type of tubal disease that results in patients seeking fallopian tube repair.

Repairing Hydrosalpinx

A hydrosalpinx can be repaired by the technique of microsurgical salpingostomy. In this procedure, the fimbrial end of the fallopian tube is opened and folded back where it is sutured in place to keep the tube open. Any scar tissue responsible for closing the end of the tube is removed. Pregnancy success rates after microsurgical salpingostomy are approximately 40%. There is an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy after repair of a hydrosalpinx, particularly if the internal lining of the tube has been damaged extensively. It is the internal lining, rich in cilia, that help move the egg down the tube to arrive in the uterine cavity.

Fallopian Tube Repair at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center

The tubal reversal doctors at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, Dr. Gary Berger and Dr. Charles Monteith, are reproductive surgeons who are specialists in tubal ligation reversal and fallopian tube repair. They perform more than 800 tubal reparative surgeries each year for women from throughout the United States and around the world. Their vast experience in repairing fallopian tubes allows women with fallopian tube damage to become pregnant naturally as opposed to the more expensive and complicated treatment of in vitro fertilization.

Challenging Tubal Ligation Reversal: Uchida Tubal Ligation

Tubal Reversal Experts

The tubal ligation reversal experts of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center are experienced at sterilization reversal. Many women who have had their ‘tubes tied’ will come to our center to have their ‘tubes untied’. Unfortunately, a ligation reversal is not as easy as ‘untying’ the tubes- we wish the process was that simple.

We employ a microsurgical approach to repair and reattach the ends of the tubes. This process is called tubotubal anastamosis, and provides a patient with an excellent chance of becoming pregnant naturally. We specialize in ligation reversal and in reversal of difficult tubal ligation procedures. We would like to present the story of one of our patients who had an atypical sterilization procedure.

Reversal of an Unusual Sterilization Procedure

The patient’s name is Ofralinda. She and her husband, Juan, came to us from Texas. Ofralinda is 35 and she works as an OSHA compliance officer. Her husband is in construction. Ofralinda desired a tubal ligation reversal in order to have more children. She had a rare and atypical sterilization procedure termed the Uchida procedure.

Uchida Sterilization Procedure

A Japanese physician, Dr. Uchida, first described this method of sterilization in 1961. This method involves removing a large segment of the fallopian tube and suturing (sewing) the cut end of the fallopian tube into the wall of the uterus. Dr. Uchida first published information about his method of sterilization after having performed over 50,000 procedures without any pregnancy failures. This is an effective but also complicated method of surgical sterilization. Most modern physicians have never performed or seen a Uchida sterilization. We have seen several patients who have presented with a Uchida sterilization procedure and we have had success with reversal of this method.

Uchida Sterilization Reversal

Ofralinda had a 60-minute outpatient tubal ligation reversal. Her surgery went well. We found her tubes to be short (due to the large amount of tube removed with her initial Uchida sterilization) but otherwise healthy. We were able to successfully repair both of her fallopian tubes. She has since been discharged back to her home and we wish her well. We would like to hear a report of a successful pregnancy from her within the year.

Sterilization Reversal at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center

We specialize in tubal ligation reversal. Our tubal ligation reversal specialists perform over 800 reversal procedures every year on women from across the world. We regularly have patients from as far away as Hawaii, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Occasionally, we will have patients from Australia, Asia, and Europe.

Most tubal ligation procedures are reversible. The pregnancy rates after reversal are generally higher than after in vitro fertilization (IVF) and we specialize in difficult tubal reversal procedures.

National Infertility Awareness Week | Affordable Treatment for Tied Tubes

National Infertility Awareness Week (October 19-25th) brings to mind the expense of advanced infertility treatments, often in the tens of thousands of dollars. During this time of economic uncertainty, this is bad news for most couples who desperately want to have children but require medical treatment to do so. There is one bright ray of light, though, and that is the topic of this article – affordable treatment for tied tubes. This is a problem that hundreds of thousands of women face when they regret that their decision to have their tubes tied. Even though the percentage of women who regret having a tubal ligation is low, the actual numbers are high because over 10 million women have had a tubal ligation in the US.

If you done any research online, you have probably learned that tubal reversals can cost as much as $30,000 when the doctors and hospital bills are all included in the price.

For an affordable tubal reversal in the best price range quoted above, you may have read about Dr. Gary Berger and Dr. Charles Monteith at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. They are the world’s leading tubal reversal doctors, yet they offer the surgery for under $6000 as an all-inclusive fee that covers everything. Do your own research to learn for yourself about the reknown tubal reversal facility in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

One of the main obstacles for most couples wanting children after a tubal ligation has been performed is that most insurance companies do not consider this to be an elective procedure that is not “medically necessary”. That is true also of the alternative treatment, in vitro fertilization or IVF, which is even more expensive and less successful for most couples than having the tubes untied.

If you need some form of financing to afford having the operation, there are companies that do finance medical treatments. The one that Dr. Berger’s clinic uses is Medical Resource Partners. You can also choose a pre-payment plan at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. These options help many couples to start or expand their family.

This plan allows you to save up the total tubal reversal cost in any increments you can afford and over how ever long it takes before scheduling your procedure for reversing tied tubes. If you wait till you have the full amount saved to make the appointment, you can get an even lower price.

About the Author:
You will find a very affordable tubal reversal by visiting Dr. Berger’s resources at http://www.tubal-reversal.net/ Even if you do not use available financing you get the world’s best tubal reversal doctors at a very good price.

When I found out I was pregnant the beginning of August I went in that day for Hcg draws and repeated that three more times.

I also had two ultrasounds with the first showing a sac at 6w2d. I had a second ultrasound at 7w5d and we saw the baby with the heartbeat. I went in today for a regular checkup with my OB doctor and the heartbeat was heard via doppler and she did an in-office ultrasound where we saw the baby kicking and the heartbeat again. I will be 12 weeks on Sunday. While this wasn’t a planned pregnancy it is slowly growing on me and I am more happy/relieved reaching this many weeks and having no complications and then again today seeing the baby/heartbeat. Just thought I’d fill you guys in! Take care!

Remarks: I just went to Doctor today to make an appt. because I was told once I get a positive test make one and don’t wait since there is a chance for tubal pregnancy. The nurse gave me a very had time saying they can’t do anything for me until I’m 8 weeks. I did get my blood work done today. The level was 38. She said it was too early to tell. I go back Wednesday. I asked her after that do I go back in two days? She said “no” but I read that I need to get blood work done until I reach 1500, right? What can I do about this? Can you right a letter or just tell me what to do because I don’t know and I’m scared if I don’t get the care that I need. The nurse is giving me a hard time - not my Doctor, I didn’t get to talk to her yet. Thank You in advance.

Remarks: We were prepared that our reversal may or may not have worked so you can imagine our surprise when I got pregnant on our first try! I am 38 and have 4 great kids ranging from 15 down to 1 1/2 years old. Hours after my tubal ligation I knew that it was a mistake and have been hoping for this moment ever since. Thank you Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, we truly believe that only you could have done this for us! I am almost 9 weeks and so far, so good. Will keep you posted….
Thank you again,
Craig & Tracy L.
